TLDR Hair loss in women aged 20-30 is often linked to deficiencies in Vitamin D, zinc, ferritin, and haemoglobin, as well as low SHBG levels in those with irregular periods.
The study investigated the role of various vitamins, minerals, and hormones in hair loss among women aged 20-30 years old. It was found that a significant proportion of the patients with alopecia were deficient in Vitamin D (93.75%), had low zinc levels (43.7%), abnormal ferritin levels (62%), and low haemoglobin levels (35.2%). Additionally, 66.6% of patients with irregular periods had low Sex hormone binding Globulin (SHBG) levels. These results underscore the importance of early testing for these deficiencies and imbalances in young women presenting with hair loss, suggesting that such tests should be part of routine treatment in primary care.
