TLDR Cataract surgery guidelines vary across Europe, and generic finasteride sales for hair loss have grown due to pill splitting.
The document discusses various studies and surveys related to healthcare, including the dosing of psoriasis biologics, the impact of pill splitting on finasteride uptake for hair loss, cost comparison of chronic hand eczema treatments, economic analysis of cataract surgery in Europe, and guidelines for cataract surgery in Europe. Specifically, the study on finasteride, which is relevant to hair loss, found that the sales of generic finasteride increased significantly after its launch, with a compound average growth rate (CAGR) of 96.17% from 2006 to 2010. This increase is hypothesized to be due to pill splitting, where patients purchase the less expensive generic 5 mg finasteride and split the pills, but this did not impact the sales of branded 1 mg finasteride, which maintained steady growth with a CAGR of 2.49%. The study included prescription volume data from 1992 to 2010. The document also includes a study on chronic hand eczema, which included 223 patients in the statutory health system and 87 patients in the occupational health insurance system, finding that indirect costs were higher for patients with work-related chronic hand eczema. Additionally, the document reports on cataract surgery, with one survey estimating the number and costs of cataract surgeries in 14 European countries and another survey assessing the available guidelines for cataract surgery in 15 European countries. Lastly, it mentions a clinical trial using call center methodology to collect quality of life data for patients with diabetic macular edema, which resulted in high questionnaire completion rates and little missing data.
