Effects of Calcium on Growth and Development of Seed Root and Root Hair in Wheat
January 1998
TLDR High calcium levels hinder wheat root growth, but not root hair formation.
The study investigated the effects of calcium on wheat seed root and root hair growth. It found that lower concentrations of CaCl2 did not affect growth, while higher concentrations (0.1 mol/L) inhibited growth but not root hair formation. EGTA inhibited both growth and formation, but this inhibition was counteracted by exogenous CaCl2. Additionally, CaM inhibitors TFP and CPZ also inhibited growth and formation, which could be reversed with exogenous CaM.
