TLDR A cow in Germany was diagnosed with bovine besnoitiosis, showing skin issues and confirmed by tests.
The paper reported a case of naturally occurring bovine besnoitiosis in Germany, characterized by skin lesions such as multifocal hypotrichosis, alopecia, lichenification, erythema, and seborrhea. Histopathologic examination revealed characteristic cysts of Besnoitia spp., and the diagnosis was confirmed through serology and polymerase chain reaction (PCR), identifying the species as Besnoitia besnoiti. The study was self-funded and declared no conflicts of interest.
