TLDR A man with baldness had successful hair growth after transplanting body hair to his head.
In 2013, a 63-year-old male with extensive baldness and a history of failed punch transplantation underwent successful body hair transplantation. Due to poor donor scalp density, 8,900 grafts were harvested from the chest, abdomen, arms, thighs, and back over multiple sessions. The test graft of 400 units from the chest showed satisfactory growth at 5 months. Tumescent anesthesia was required for pain relief. Hair growth on the recipient area began at 4 months, reaching 3-4 cm by 8 months. The chest provided the best yield among the donor areas. The patient was pleased with the significant change in appearance, but the yield and growth were moderate, and long-term outcomes were uncertain. The report suggested body hair as an alternative donor source for patients with poor scalp density and good body hair, but advised against premature online promotion and stressed the importance of proper patient counseling.
