TLDR Mechanical forces are crucial for hair regeneration in skin organoids.
The study investigated how mechanical forces influence the development of skin organoids and their ability to regenerate hair follicles. Using various analytical methods, researchers found that dermal cell contraction forces initiate mesenchymal-epithelial interaction (MEI) by affecting dermal-epidermal attachment through calcium signaling pathways. The stretching force activates the Piezo1 sensor in epidermal cells, which regulates MEI and dermal cell attachment. This mechanical-chemical interaction was essential for successful hair regeneration when skin organoids were transplanted into mice, highlighting its importance in organoid and regenerative biology.
