TLDR Hair follicle stem cells work well with bladder matrix for bladder repair.
The study investigated the biocompatibility of hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) with a heterogeneous bladder acellular matrix (BAM) for potential use in bladder tissue engineering. Rat HFSCs were cultured and implanted into BAM, which was prepared from New Zealand rabbit bladders. The BAM was confirmed to be free of cellular elements and composed mainly of collagen. HFSCs showed good growth and adhesion to the BAM surface, with no significant inflammatory response observed in rat subcutaneous implantation experiments. Histological examination revealed a single-layer cell structure after 1 week and a multi-layer structure after 4 weeks. The results indicated that HFSCs and BAM had good biocompatibility, supporting the potential use of HFSCs in repairing bladder defects.
