TLDR Ladakh hotsprings contain compounds with potential medicinal benefits for various health conditions.
The study on the hotsprings of Ladakh, specifically Chumathang, Panamik, Changlung, and Puga, reveals the presence of 27 bioactive compounds, including alkanes, alcohols, carboxylic acids, esters, aldehydes, and amides, identified through GC-MS/MS analysis. These compounds, particularly alkanes, esters, alcohols, and carboxylic acids, show potential medicinal value for managing chronic conditions like cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer, as well as benefits for skin care, wound healing, metabolic regulation, diabetes management, and weight control. Although the findings are promising, further clinical studies are necessary to confirm their efficacy and safety, potentially leading to new therapeutic developments.
