TLDR Baricitinib helps regrow hair in teens with severe alopecia areata.
The phase 3 BRAVE-AA-PEDS trial demonstrated that baricitinib significantly improved hair regrowth in adolescents aged 12–17 with severe alopecia areata. At 36 weeks, 42% of participants receiving 4 mg of baricitinib achieved 80% or more scalp hair coverage, compared to placebo. Eyebrow and eyelash regrowth also improved significantly, with 50% and 42.9% of participants in the 4 mg group showing substantial regrowth, respectively. The treatment was well tolerated, with mild to moderate side effects, and no new safety concerns.
