TLDR Bacillus subtilis strain WM13-24 helps plant root growth through volatile compounds.
The study found that Bacillus subtilis strain WM13-24 from the rhizosphere of Haloxylon ammodendron promotes the growth of Arabidopsis and its host plant by stimulating lateral root formation and root hair growth through volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The VOCs, including 2,3-butanediol and benzyl alcohol, were identified using SPME–GC–MS and shown to be concentration-dependent in their effects. Auxin signaling and transport were crucial for the root development changes observed, suggesting that VOCs from strain WM13-24 enhance root development via auxin pathways.
