TLDR Higher sugar and maltose intake is linked to autism, while total carbohydrates, fructose, and lactose are linked to lower autism rates.
This study found a direct association between autism spectrum disorders and the intake of sugar and maltose, while an inverse relationship was observed with the dietary intake of total carbohydrates, fructose, and lactose in school-aged children in Iran. The findings suggest the need for further long-term research to better understand these dietary connections.
