Aromatherapy was an ancient healing art that utilized natural plant extracts to improve psychological and physical well-being. It involved the inhalation of essential oils, which were believed to stimulate brain function and promote whole-body healing through absorption into the bloodstream. The practice was thought to activate olfactory receptors, influencing brain areas like the limbic system and hypothalamus, potentially enhancing mood and emotions. Aromatherapy was used for various conditions, including pain relief, mood enhancement, cognitive function, and ailments such as alopecia, asthma, and depression. Popular essential oils included fennel, geranium, lavender, and lemongrass.
