TLDR Armadillo Repeat Only proteins are essential for proper plant growth and response by regulating calcium channels.
The study identifies Armadillo Repeat Only (ARO) proteins as crucial regulators of plant cyclic nucleotide-gated channels (CNGCs), which are important for calcium signaling in plant cells. AROs are shown to be essential for the proper functioning of CNGCs, as their absence leads to defects in root gravitropism, root hair growth, stomatal movement, and responses to extracellular ATP and auxin. The research demonstrates that AROs interact with CNGCs and modulate their activity, suggesting that AROs form a tetrameric structure around the CNGC channels. These findings underscore the significance of AROs in plant-specific CNGC function and calcium signaling.
