TLDR Wounds heal faster in the anogenital/inguinal area than in the axillary area after surgery for hidradenitis suppurativa.
The study investigated wound healing in hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa after surgery, focusing on differences between anatomical areas. It involved 23 surgical procedures in 17 patients, examining healing times at axillary and anogenital/inguinal sites. Results showed that wounds in the anogenital/inguinal region healed almost twice as fast (mean: 132 days) compared to the axillary region (mean: 254 days). This faster healing was linked to higher expression of CK15 and CD200, markers associated with hair follicle progenitor cells. The study concluded that the density of pilosebaceous units and hair follicle progenitor cells likely contributed to the observed differences in healing times.
