TLDR Lablab purpureus peptides may effectively kill cancer cells with fewer side effects.
The study investigates the anticancer and antioxidant properties of bioactive peptides derived from Lablab purpureus. It highlights the potential of these peptides, particularly the pepsin hydrolysate and its fraction 2, to selectively induce apoptosis in cancer cells (A549 and MCF-7) while causing minimal harm to healthy cells (HEK293). The peptides demonstrated significant radical scavenging abilities and increased apoptotic activity, as evidenced by caspase assays and p53 expression. These findings suggest that L. purpureus peptides could serve as effective alternative cancer treatments with fewer side effects compared to traditional therapies.
