Antioxidant and Cytoprotective Properties of Plant Extract from Dry Flowers as Functional Dyes for Cosmetic Products

The study evaluated plant extracts from dry flowers, including P. rhoeas L., P. granatum L., C. ternatea L., C. tinctorius L., and G. globasa L., for their potential as functional dyes in cosmetics. These extracts demonstrated significant antioxidant and cytoprotective properties, with no cytotoxic effects, and showed promise in anti-aging applications by inhibiting enzymes that degrade skin fibers. They also provided UV protection and enhanced skin hydration while reducing transepidermal water loss. While some extracts, like P. rhoeas L., C. ternatea L., and C. tinctorius L., effectively altered cosmetic cream colors, others, such as P. granatum L. and G. globasa L., were less effective as colorants. The study suggested these extracts as sustainable alternatives to conventional dyes, offering both aesthetic and protective benefits for skin health.
