TLDR Cuscuta reflexa leaves extract may help lower blood sugar and improve diabetes symptoms.
The study investigated the antidiabetic potential of Cuscuta reflexa leaves methanol extract (CRME) in alloxan-induced diabetic Wistar albino rats over 45 days. CRME was administered in doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg/day, and its effects were compared to gliclazide. Results showed that CRME significantly reduced blood glucose levels, with the highest dose achieving a reduction to 109.5 mg/dL compared to 249.7 mg/dL in the diabetic control group. CRME also improved HbA1C, insulin levels, liver function, and lipid profiles. Histopathological analysis indicated that CRME reversed diabetes-induced tissue changes, suggesting its potential as an antidiabetic and organ-protective agent. The study concluded that C. reflexa could be a promising alternative therapeutic agent for diabetes treatment, warranting further investigation into its bioactive compounds.
