TLDR Antibiotic resistance in children's UTIs, especially from E. coli, is rising due to misuse and easy access to antibiotics.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common in children, often caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli). The gold standard for diagnosing UTIs is urine culture, which helps determine appropriate antibiotic therapy. Antibiotic resistance is a global issue, with 80% of healthcare facilities using antibiotics in treatment. Resistance rates are higher in developing countries, especially in children aged 0-5 years, leading to increased mortality, morbidity, and healthcare costs. E. coli shows the highest incidence of antibiotic resistance in UTIs, often due to improper antibiotic use and easy access to antibiotics without prescriptions.
