TLDR Lactococcus lactis strain H61 may reduce some ageing symptoms.
The study investigated the effects of oral administration of Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris H61 on ageing in senescence-accelerated mice (SAMP6), which develop osteoporosis and other ageing symptoms. The administration of heat-killed strain H61 to aged SAMP6 mice was linked to reduced bone density loss, fewer skin ulcers, and less hair loss compared to controls. It also altered immune responses, as indicated by increased production of interferon-γ and IL-12. While the gut microbiota composition remained largely unchanged, Staphylococcus sp. counts were significantly lower in mice fed strain H61. The study concluded that strain H61 could potentially suppress some ageing manifestations.
