TLDR Anthocyanins from fruits and vegetables may help prevent and treat colorectal cancer safely.
The review explores the potential of anthocyanins as an alternative therapy for colorectal cancer (CRC), highlighting their antioxidant, antimutagenic, and anticancer properties without the side effects of conventional chemotherapy. Various studies indicate that anthocyanins from sources like apples, bilberries, black raspberries, and purple potatoes can reduce CRC cell proliferation and promote apoptosis through mechanisms such as modulating reactive oxygen species and signaling pathways like JAK/STAT3 and MAPKinase. The findings suggest that anthocyanins could be a safer and effective option for CRC prevention and treatment.
