Animal Hair Fibers: Structural Characteristics and Properties

In 2014, limited studies had been conducted on the structure and properties of animal hairs, with the exception of wool from different types of sheep. A study by Zhang et al. examined the structural characteristics of rabbit hair. They found that the hair fibers had average diameters varying between 10 and 20 μm. The fibers had scales similar to those seen on wool, and the cross-section of the fibers revealed a hollow center, akin to that seen in feathers. The literature on animal hair fibers was limited, despite the vast number of animals with hair.
