TLDR Amputation stump skin disease worsens life quality, especially in men during summer, and long prosthesis use increases fungal infection risk.
This study evaluated the quality of life and risk factors for amputation stump skin disease (ASSD) and stump fungal infection among 104 amputees in Shanghai. The findings indicated that ASSD severely impaired the quality of life, with a mean Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score of 13.6. Among the participants, 39.4% had ASSD, with 58.5% of these cases involving fungal infections, predominantly Aspergillus. Other conditions included intertriginous dermatitis, eczema, and cutaneous keratosis. ASSD was more prevalent in men and during summer, with summer being a significant risk factor (OR = 3.31). Additionally, wearing a prosthesis for more than 8 hours daily was linked to a higher risk of stump fungal infection.
