TLDR High temperatures and certain chemicals can significantly change the amino acid content in human hair.
The study investigated the effects of various treatments on the amino acid content of human hair keratins. It was found that treatments with hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide at high temperatures caused significant alterations in hair structure and amino acid yield. Specifically, HCl treatments resulted in hydrolysis of keratins below 2% within 30 minutes and about 6-10% within 1 hour. The research also explored how congenital syndromes might influence hair keratin's amino acid content. The study highlighted that some amino acids' yields were independent of time or temperature, while others were affected by these conditions.
