TLDR Children's books on alopecia need more medical accuracy and diversity to better support affected kids.
This study examines children's literature on alopecia, highlighting its role in shaping self-esteem and awareness among affected children. It finds that while these books depict diverse alopecia types, hair colors, and textures, they often fall short in including healthcare providers, male protagonists, recommended treatments, and external support resources. The study suggests that improving the medical accuracy and diversity of these books could enhance clinical understanding, support networks, and the overall quality of life for children with alopecia.
