TLDR Hair evaluation is crucial for early diagnosis and management of ARCI, as hair loss often indicates severity.
This study on autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI) involved 30 patients and highlighted significant hair involvement, particularly scarring alopecia, which correlates with ARCI severity. Conducted over three years, the study found that 11 patients exhibited alopecia, with manifestations such as hairline recession, patchy alopecia, and eyebrow alopecia. Trichoscopic examinations revealed signs like perifollicular scaling and lamellar hyperkeratosis. The study emphasizes the importance of hair evaluation in ARCI patients for early diagnosis and better clinical management, with the TGM1 gene being a key genetic factor.
