TLDR Alopecia areata is the most common type of baldness treated with corticosteroids and minoxidil.
The document discusses a case report of a patient with alopecia areata (AA), characterized by sudden local hair loss without skin inflammation or scarring. The patient experienced baldness for the first time 3 months prior, with symptoms including itchy scalp and growth of grey, easily broken hair in bald areas. Dermatological examination revealed well-demarcated bald patches on almost the entire scalp. Investigations showed no fungal infection, non-reactive HIV and VDRL tests, and leukocytosis. The patient was treated with intralesional corticosteroids, topical corticosteroids, and minoxidil according to the AA treatment algorithm.
