TLDR The treatment using phenol and dexamethasone was effective for alopecia areata with no recurrence in 6 months.
A 13-year-old girl with extensive alopecia areata, affecting over 50% of her scalp, was treated with a combination of 88% phenol and intravenous dexamethasone pulses. She underwent 5 sessions of phenolisation and 4 monthly dexamethasone pulses over 4 months. The treatment resulted in significant hair regrowth with no recurrence after 6 months of follow-up. The study highlighted the effectiveness of combining phenol and dexamethasone for rapid and improved outcomes in treating alopecia areata, with no reported side effects in this case.
