TLDR People with alopecia areata are more likely to have thyroid autoimmunity, but not thyroid disease.
This case-control study investigates the relationship between alopecia areata (AA) and thyroid conditions. The findings reveal a significant association between AA and thyroid autoimmunity, indicating that individuals with AA are more likely to have thyroid autoimmunity. However, the study found no significant link between AA and either clinical or subclinical thyroid disease. This suggests that while thyroid autoimmunity is prevalent among those with AA, it does not necessarily translate to thyroid disease.
