TLDR Ageratum conyzoides L. extract may effectively and safely treat hair loss.
The document summarizes a study on the effectiveness of Ageratum conyzoides L. extract in treating hair loss. The in vitro results showed that the extract significantly inhibited 5α-reductase type 1 gene expression and Prostaglandin D2 release in Human Hair Dermal Papilla Cells, which are implicated in hair loss. In the clinical pilot study, 28 participants with pattern baldness applied a gel containing the extract twice daily for 8 weeks. The study found that 64% of men and 100% of women in the 1% treatment group reported improvements in hair loss symptoms, and over 65% of participants experienced an improvement in hair-related quality of life. The study concluded that A. conyzoides extract appears to be an effective and safe treatment for hair loss, although it noted the need for further research with a larger sample size to confirm these findings.
