TLDR A man had bad reactions to a hair loss treatment called DNCB.
A 25-year-old man with a long history of alopecia areata, which progressed to alopecia universalis, experienced systemic adverse reactions to topical dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) therapy. Despite previous treatments with topical and intradermal adrenal steroids yielding minimal improvement, he saw regrowth of all hair except on his scalp while on 8 mg of oral medication. Concerns about the mutagenicity of DNCB had been raised, and this case highlighted potential systemic effects of the treatment.
