TLDR EE/CMA is more effective than EE/LNG in reducing acne.
The study evaluated the efficacy of the oral contraceptive ethinylestradiol/chlormadinone acetate (EE/CMA) compared to ethinylestradiol/levonorgestrel (EE/LNG) in treating mild to moderate papulopustular acne in women. Involving 199 female participants, the trial found that 59.4% of women using EE/CMA were responders, with a 50% reduction in acne lesions, compared to 45.9% using EE/LNG. Additionally, complete resolution of acne was observed in 16.5% of the EE/CMA group versus 4.3% in the EE/LNG group by the 12th medication cycle. The results indicated that EE/CMA was an effective treatment for facial acne, attributed to the anti-androgenic properties of chlormadinone acetate.
