Association Between ACE I/D Gene Polymorphism and Dyslipidemia in Hypertensive Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease Complication Among Ethiopian Population

    Addisu Melake, Nega Brhanie
TLDR Certain genes and high cholesterol levels increase heart disease risk in Ethiopian patients with high blood pressure.
This study investigated the association between ACE I/D gene polymorphism and dyslipidemia in hypertensive patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD) in an Ethiopian population. Conducted as a hospital-based case-control study with 70 hypertensive IHD patients and 70 healthy controls, the research found that the ACE -DD genotype and D allele were significantly more prevalent in patients, suggesting a genetic predisposition to IHD complications. Additionally, dyslipidemia was identified as a major risk factor, being significantly higher in patients than in controls. The findings highlight the importance of genetic and lipid profile assessments in managing IHD risk.
