TLDR The PEEK cage reduced pain more than the dynamic cervical implant, but the implant allowed slightly better movement after surgery.
The study conducted by Mohammed Ahmed Alhady and Mohamed Hassan from the Department of Neurosurgery, Damietta Faculty of Medicine, Al-Azhar University, Egypt, compared the outcomes of using a cervical poly-etherether-ketone (PEEK) cage and a dynamic cervical implant (DCI) for anterior cervical discectomy fusion (ACDF) in 50 patients with degenerative disk disease. The results showed that the PEEK cage was associated with a significantly higher mean percentage of pain reduction (81.93±7.07) compared to the DCI group (66.23±11.48). However, the DCI group had a slightly better range of motion postoperatively. Both groups had comparable global range of motion and any complications were mild and treated conservatively.
