TLDR A special diet can help manage Feline Atopic Skin Syndrome and reduce medication needs in cats.
The study examined the effects of a novel diet on managing Feline Atopic Skin Syndrome (FASS) in cats, involving 25 cats with 21 completing the study. Conducted over 6 months, the randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded study found that the test diet significantly reduced medication dependency and improved symptom severity, as measured by the Visual Analogue Scale for feline pruritus (VAScat) and the Feline Dermatitis Extent and Severity Index (FeDESI). Significant improvements were observed at 3 and 6 months, with the test group showing greater reductions in pruritus and medication needs compared to the control group. The findings suggest that tailored nutrition can significantly aid in the clinical management of FASS, highlighting the potential of dietary management in reducing drug dependency.
