The study presents a novel fluorescent ionic liquid (FLIL) developed for the sensitive and selective detection of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS), a compound that can cause adverse effects like hair loss. The FLIL, created through a simple ionic exchange reaction, exhibits high sensitivity to DSS, with detection limits in the nanomolar range. The material transitions from non-fluorescent to green fluorescent upon DSS addition, and a paper-based strip kit was also developed for practical DSS detection in solid samples. This innovative approach offers superior properties for potential forensic and environmental monitoring applications.
