TLDR A genetic hair protein variant is more common in Japanese people and is inherited.
In a study of human hair proteins, a genetic electrophoretic variant was identified in the high-sulfur protein region. Analysis of 150 Japanese hair samples revealed that 43 had an additional high-sulfur protein band, while only 1 out of 21 Caucasian samples showed this variant. The variant protein had a molecular weight of 30 kDa and isoelectric points between 3.3-3.4. Family studies involving 21 matings and 49 children suggested that this variant was inherited in an autosomal manner.
