TLDR The care model improved timely diagnosis and treatment for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of the preferential derivation care model for multidisciplinary care in patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis over 4 years at the Policlinico San Martino Hospital in Genoa. A total of 160 patients (109 men, 51 women, mean age 67±10) participated, resulting in 250 visits. The STRIPP questionnaire was used for screening, and patients with scores above 3 were referred to a rheumatologist within 7 days. The SAPS questionnaire indicated a high satisfaction rate, with a mean score of 20 (±2). Despite the preference for simultaneous evaluations, the model facilitated timely diagnosis and treatment, with 28 patients diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and starting therapy immediately. The study highlights the benefits of multidisciplinary collaboration, even when not conducted simultaneously, though it acknowledges limitations such as the observational nature and lack of validation for the questionnaires in the Italian population.
