1311 Efficacy of topical tofacitinib in promoting hair growth in non-scarring alopecia

The study evaluated the efficacy of topical tofacitinib in promoting hair growth in non-scarring alopecia using eight-week-old male C57BL/6 mice. The mice were divided into four groups and treated with tofacitinib, minoxidil, or vehicle once daily for 21 days. Results showed that tofacitinib-treated mice had significantly more hair regrowth and a faster hair growth rate than those treated with minoxidil or vehicle from days 7 to 21. Histopathological analysis revealed an increased number of anagen-phase hair follicles in the tofacitinib group. Additionally, VEGF mRNA and protein expression were significantly higher in the tofacitinib-treated group, while IGF-1 mRNA expression was not increased. The study concluded that topical tofacitinib effectively promotes hair growth, likely through elevated VEGF levels and reduced inflammation, and could be a potential new treatment for non-scarring alopecia.
