Artificial hair fibres are a banned device in the United States: FDA rule 21 CFR 895.101 bans prosthetic hair fibres because they neither grow hair nor conceal baldness and can cause serious infection, illness and injury. Grafting a person's own hair is explicitly excluded from that ban. Reported complications of fibre implants include infection, granuloma, chronic inflammation and fibre breakage, and the implants are sold mainly by clinics outside the countries that ban them.
