TLDR Acne and hair loss in women can greatly lower their quality of life, but having polycystic ovarian syndrome does not.
The study, involving 208 adult female acne (AFA) patients, aimed to assess the effects of AFA and its associated factors on quality of life (QoL) using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). The results showed that patients with moderate to severe acne, those whose acne was aggravated by diet, and those with androgenetic alopecia had significantly higher DLQI scores, indicating a lower QoL. However, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and hirsutism did not significantly impact QoL. The most affected aspect was feeling embarrassed and self-conscious, especially in patients with moderate to severe acne. The daily activities of patients with androgenetic alopecia were significantly impacted in terms of their choice of clothes and sexual difficulties. The study concluded that AFA had a moderate to extremely large effect on patients' QoL.
