Alopecia Totalis Treated with 1064 nm Picosecond Nd:YAG Laser: A Case Report

TLDR Laser therapy might help regrow hair in alopecia totalis better than steroids alone.
In a case report from 2019, a 25-year-old woman with alopecia totalis was treated with a combination of a 1064 nm picosecond Nd:YAG laser on the right half of her scalp and topical and intralesional steroids on both sides. After six monthly treatments, the right half of the scalp, which received the laser therapy, exhibited a significant hair regrowth rate of 10.35%, compared to a 2.79% regrowth rate on the left half, which was treated with steroids alone. The study concluded that the laser therapy could be a promising adjuvant treatment for alopecia totalis, but emphasized the need for further studies to confirm these findings.
