TLDR Implanted human scalp cells can regenerate hair-like structures in mice.
In the study conducted 16 years ago, researchers observed hair follicle regeneration in nude mice after subcutaneous implantation of a mixture of human scalp cells. The mixture included hair papilla cells, dermal sheath cells, outer root sheath, fibroblasts, and hair follicle epithelial cells. The results showed the formation of intact hair follicle-like structures in the skin sections of the recipient mice, indicating that this method could potentially be feasible for hair follicle regeneration in vivo.
