TLDR Minoxidil helps hair cells live longer and grow longer.
The study investigated the effect of minoxidil on cultured keratinocytes and found that it prolonged the survival of cells and delayed senescence, similar to epidermal growth factor. The researchers concluded that minoxidil may stimulate hair matrix cells directly and slow the senescence of keratinocytes, which could contribute to the increase in hair length produced by minoxidil. Further studies are needed to determine the mechanism of action of minoxidil.
