TLDR Fungal skin infections significantly lower patients' quality of life.
The study conducted by T. S. Rajashekar and colleagues in 2019 involved 186 patients with recurrent and persistent dermatophytosis, a common fungal infection. The study aimed to assess the impact of dermatophytosis and its sequelae on the quality of life using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), a questionnaire-based survey method. The results showed a significant impairment of quality of life in patients with dermatophytosis, with a mean DLQI score of 12.7. Factors such as the age of the patient, duration of the infection, and site of involvement statistically influenced the DLQI scores. The study concluded that assurance, counselling, and early and prompt treatment play a significant role in reducing disease-related psychosocial sequelae and increasing the efficacy of treatment.
