TLDR Bio-enhanced hair restoration, using methods like growth factors, stem cells, and ATP, results in better hair growth and density than traditional hair transplants.
The 2014 research article "Bio-Enhanced Hair Restoration" studied the impact of bio-enhancement on hair restoration in 200 participants experiencing hair loss. The study combined traditional hair transplant techniques with bio-enhancement methods, including growth factors and stem cells. The results indicated a significant increase in hair growth and density in participants who underwent bio-enhanced hair restoration compared to those who only received a traditional hair transplant. The study concluded that bio-enhancement significantly improves hair restoration outcomes. The author, Dr. Jerry E. Cooley, used liposomal adenosine triphosphate (ATP) post-operatively to enhance healing and graft growth, and also used HypoThermosol FRS and ACell MatriStem. The study transplanted 1,353 follicular unit (FU) grafts coated with ACell MatriStem, resulting in excellent hair growth and improved skin texture. The author also used platelet-rich plasma (PRP) combined with ACell for treating miniaturizing hair, leading to mild to moderate hair thickening. The effectiveness of this treatment depended on the patient's underlying genetics and the hair treatments they were using.
