TLDR Men with hair loss mainly see doctors for treatment options like minoxidil.
In a study of 201 men with alopecia androgenetica interested in minoxidil treatment, it was found that one-third consulted a professional about hair loss over two years. General practitioners were consulted by 60% and other professionals by about 75%. The primary motive for seeking consultation was hair treatment, which was offered to half of those who consulted. Medical professionals were generally preferred for minoxidil treatment consultations. The likelihood of treatment success and the severity of hair problems were more influential in seeking consultation than professional suitability or baldness extent. Additionally, those consulting both general practitioners and other professionals tended to have more general issues.
