Effects of TGF-β Antagonist Decorin on Wound Healing in Rabbits

    The study investigated the effects of decorin, a TGF-β antagonist, on scar formation in rabbit surgical wounds. Decorin was administered subcutaneously in varying doses (2.5 μg, 10 μg, and 20 μg). At 4 and 8 weeks, the 10 μg and 20 μg decorin groups showed reduced thickness of immature collagen fibers compared to the control, indicating decreased scar formation. By 8 weeks, wounds treated with 10 μg and 20 μg decorin had completely recovered to normal skin tissue, including sweat glands and hair follicles. These findings suggested that decorin could help prevent local scar formation.
