TLDR Hair transplants can lead to serious infections, so avoid corticosteroids and ensure clean, well-managed wounds.
This document reported a rare case of life-threatening Staphylococcus aureus sepsis following a hair transplant procedure in a 44-year-old man. Despite hair transplantation being a common and generally safe procedure, this case highlighted the potential for serious infectious complications. The patient developed septic pulmonary emboli and required intensive care and a prolonged course of antimicrobial therapy. The use of corticosteroids, which is not customary, was noted to interfere with infection management. The case emphasized the importance of avoiding corticosteroids, ensuring adequate hemostasis, maintaining wound cleanliness, and considering secondary wound closure to prevent such complications.
