The study conducted a histological examination of the skin from 14 aged dogs, revealing atrophy in the epidermis, appendages, and dermis, along with a decrease in hair number. Unlike humans, senile elastosis and dermal basophilia were not observed. Skin changes varied across different body regions. A notable feature in aged apocrine glands was the presence of yellow refractile granules in secretory cells, whose chemical composition was unknown but did not contain iron. There was also a potential increase in dermal pigmentation.
