TLDR Correcting their experiment, the authors confirmed β-estradiol affects hair growth in mice.
The authors acknowledged a mistake in their initial experiments regarding the concentration of β-estradiol used, which differed from the original report by Oh and Smart. Upon repeating the experiments with the correct protocol, they confirmed that β-estradiol inhibited the normal progression of spontaneous anagen in pigmented mice. This led to new insights into estrogen receptor-mediated signaling in murine hair growth control. They expressed gratitude to Drs. Oh and Smart for highlighting this phenomenon and planned to share further findings in a future report. An editorial error prevented Drs. Smart and Oh from responding to the original letter, for which an apology was issued.
